Newark FD unveils 5 new fire trucks

Mayor Cory Booker, Fire Director Fateen Ziyad and Fire Chief John Centanni unveiled five new trucks. The new vehicles debuted during a morning ceremony at the department’s Central Ward training facility.

The city received funding for the Haz-Mat trucks through a $750,000 federal grant, Ziyad said, and paid for one of the new engines through its Haz-Mat fund.

City of Newark and Newark Firefighters Union

New Jersey State Board of Mediation Case No. 10-0352


The City of Newark and the NFU agree to resolve the above referenced matter as follows:

1. The current sick leave policy is to call members only on duty days to confirm that they are home in accordance with City policy.

2. The City will maintain the status quo of only calling members on duty days to confirm they are home.  Members will not be called on non-duty days for this purpose.

3. The NFU shall withdraw the grievance regarding this matter.


This grievance was settled on January 20, 2011.

This commercial opposing the layoffs and company closings will began airing this morning, Oct. 27 at 6am and will continue until November 13th.The commercial will air on News 12, BET, TBS, TLC, USA, Lifetime, ABC Family, CNN, Nickelodeon (during Sponge Bob), ESPN, NBA and during Devils and Rangers hockey games. There are different time slots ranging from early morning to prime-time (the total is 279). We feel we have covered every demographic with the channels and time slots selected. This is only one step in our efforts to put a stop to the layoffs and closings being threatened.  {sharethis}
